Xavier Lepercq

Co-Founder – Chief Engineer

Mechanical Engineer specialized in structure mechanics, graduated from EPFL in 2017, he performed a master thesis at Thales Alenia Space aiming at simulating a complex composite structure. Xavier is the chief engineer of the project. Thanks to his creativity, engineering skills and multiple experiences in marine and composite material automated manufacturing, he developed a program to predict the boat behavior, demonstrating the potential of the project.

Mayeul van den Broek

Co-Founder – Project Manager

Thanks to his multiple experiences in nautical and technical projects, (circumvention of the Isle of Skye on a beach catamaran, design of solar powered floats in Japan) Mayeul is the project manager of SP80. He is in charge of partner relations, sponsorship and communication. His passion for water sports and his EPFL engineering degree in mechanical design and fluid dynamics enable him to take part in the boat development with Xavier and Benoit.

Benoît Gaudiot

Co-Founder – Sailor

Current owner of the world speed sailing record for the 18 and under category (51 knots), winner of the Weymouth Speed Week 2014 and former member of the French kitesurfing team, Benoit is the SP80 test pilot: he is currently studying mechanical engineering at EPFL and is the perfect link between SP80 and EPFL research labs. He also took a very important role in the boat design thanks to his ability to bridge his practical kitesurf expertise and technical knowledge.

Adrian Breitenmoser

Mechanical Systems & VPP

Future engineer from HES in Yverdon in Industrial Systems, Adrian has already been working in the past with the team during the 2016 Hydrocontest, attaining great results during the event. Now working on the boat mechanical systems, he is using his experience from sailing in international regattas and windsurfing in order to develop reliable and efficient systems, essential in such a challenge.

Romain Paridant

Management & Composite Mechanics

After having sailed in competition, Romain followed the rapid evolution of foiling boats with great attention. He also worked in the field of composites. Engineer in Microtechnology, he graduated with a Masters degree from the HES-SO in 2019. The subject of his master thesis was the characterization of the hyperelastic behavior of a material using finite element simulation. It is with great motivation that he will take part in the simulation and composite teams.

Zoé Daguin

Management & Fluid Mechanics

Zoé studied hydrodynamics and maritime transportation at Centrale Nantes and then came to EPFL for a master degree in mechanical engineering. Her previous internship experiences in management, offshore wind energy and mechanical design applied to microfluidic devices have provided her with relevant skills to take part in this adventure. She is currently focused on the management of the project during the launching phase.

Arthur Girard

Structural & Composite Mechanics

Arthur is an ETH Zurich Phd student. His expertise field covers numerical simulation of composite structures with a focus in the development of new fracture models and new composite parts manufacturing processes. Graduated with a Master of mechanical engineering at ETHZ after a Bachelor at EPFL, he was also involved in the Hydrocontest with other members of the team. Arthur oversees the composite structure of the boat and more specifically of the appendices.

Aurore Kerr

Experimental Fluid Dynamics

Aurore is an EPFL Master student in mechanical engineering, as well as an active volunteer in two sailing associations. This experience has given her the perfect tools to contribute to the team. She will do her Master thesis during the fall semester 2019 on super-ventilated profiles and hopes to bring also some of her soft skills to the project, such as communication.

Benjamin Bonnal

Telemetry & Electrical Systems

Microengineer graduated from EPFL in 2018, Benjamin has started his career in UAV embedded electronics. Benjamin is now pursuing a PhD in electronics for the embedded medical industry.
Thanks to his origins in Britany Benjamin has been sailing Dinghies from a very young age and the passion has never faded. His role in the SP80 project is to overview the implementation of telemetry and electrical systems to monitor the boat and its performance.
