TWO TEAMS UNITED FOR ONE RECORD

The world sailing speed record is being tackled by two entities working hand in hand: the company SP80 sarl and a student association of the same name.

The association is a genuine link between the business and academic worlds and enables engineering students from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) to take part in the adventure alongside their studies.

FOCUS ON THE ASSOCIATION

The world sailing speed record is a driver for research and development.

Thanks to the support of EPFL through the MAKE initiative, the association has already brought together more than a hundred students who have been working on the creation of prototypes, the design of custom-made kites and R&D on superventilating foils.

PROJECT AETHER

The student association has now launched Project Æther, a new adventure inspired by the R&D already done on high performance kites for the record.

The team is developing a prototype for an automated kite control system that aims to provide a reliable and repeatable way to launch and control kites autonomously.

This highlights the team’s effort to move towards more sustainable shipping while reflecting the ever growing passion of our students, already working hard on new projects that go beyond the record.
